Julius Maddox failed the highly anticipated 800 lb (363 kg) raw bench press world record attempt on Saturday, Augat Wrigley Field Chicago, Illinois following a baseball game between the Royals and Cubs. On May 10, 2022, Julius Maddox took another large step toward his goal of bench pressing 800 pounds raw. Unfortunately, it appears that it wasn’t meant to be, at least not this time. With his goal of conquering 800lbs in his sight Maddox came close to making his dream a reality. Powerlifter Julius Maddox recently attempted at 804.8lb bench press at an official meet. In June 2019, Maddox set the American raw bench record with 723.1/327kg lbs to surpass Eric Spoto’s 722 lbs from 2013, at an event in Corpus, Christi Texas. Maddox holds the all-time raw bench press record of 782.6 lbs (355 kg), and he wanted to make history once again by becoming the first-ever to press this much weight raw. He had already attempted an 800 lb bench press last year but failed the attempt after the bar was misloaded, causing him to suffer a minor injury. It must have been real disappointing to have failed this weight again and with two attempts but knowing Julius, he’ll be back and there’s no doubt he can pull it off.
